 New Forum (Goodbye Aimoo
Posted by jim_ashurst - 11-14-07 18:27 - 0 comments
Crikey! I thought it had been hacked and I was out of town, so I had my grandson post that first note. Then I found it, ya, you could say the Aimoo board had been hacked - by Aimoo. Some Aimoo genius came up with the idea of completely revamping their forum and has screwed it totally up. They never even told board owners what they were about to do. A pox on them. So, here we are, starting over. Hope the old hands find their way here.

Now, lets move discussions to other Topics and leave this one for introductions, as we had before.

 Octuplet Mother of 14
Posted by autumbrezzz - 05-6-09 10:02 - 1 comments
I don't understand the over powering press and peoples response to the octuplet Mother of 14 children, when there are still hundreds of women in the FLDS who have this many and more. Most family have more then 20 people living in small houses with no husband to speak of. I wonder what would happen if the press would follow around only 5 Mom's of the FLDS. The octuplet Mothers life can not even begin to compare with one Mother of the FLDS.

 Child marriage in Saudi Arabia

A father married off his 8 year old daughter to a 47 year old man to settle a debt. The judicial system failed to protect the girl's rights several times. Sound familiar?

Dang this board has been dead. I recently read Carolyn Jessop's and Elisa Wall's books on their experience in, and getting out of polygamous Colorado City. I have incredible admiration for their strength and courage.

 a contract with nature
Posted by chasxmo - 11-19-08 08:32 - 1 comments
How to feel silly: mentally say “I’m about saving the human race.” There’s no need to say it out loud, which of course would invite derision. But that is what we’re about isn’t it? Isn’t it? I mean didn’t you see that American Masters piece on Carol Burnett? Of course we have to save this race. Of course we do. Any creature this funny, this endearing, just has to be saved.

And yet, we don’t often come right out and say that. Even our religious people, they’ll talk about how we just have to save our souls, but these earthly containers of our souls don’t tend to rate very highly within their Celestial scheme of things. The earthly containers of our souls are an embarrassment to them, it seems, and the sooner we’re shed of them, the better.

Could it be that deep down we really aren’t about saving the human race? That would go a long way to explaining much of our behavior. Could it be that we long for a world without people? Yes, it would be an improvement on many fronts.

A world with people could be all right too, with just a few common sense principles being practiced. Birth control, for example. The Golden Rule, the only good idea Christianity ever came up with, and they probably stole it from pagans. Renewable energy, a contract with nature.

I propose a contract with nature. It’s not that nature is some kind of benevolent ideal Garden of Eden to which people are some kind of invasive weed. Actually, it is a little bit like that, but the point is, it’s just that the natural world over many eons has necessarily had to develop a certain discipline. The chronic polluters didn’t last. Correction. Some of the chronic polluters did last but through finding partners who would consume their pollutants.

Let’s get the real information out to the people here. Do you know who the first planetary scale chronic polluters were? Photosynthesizes. Yes. They found a way to use solar energy to power themselves, but a by-product of that of that process was at that time a highly toxic by-product, oxygen. Luckily, they found some partners who actually like oxygen, namely animals. Course all this took place over hundreds of millions of years.

What came about through this process is a solar powered economy in which the players either don’t pollute or they have found partners who will eat their pollution. There’s a discipline that has evolved. So here’s the contract. We have to play by this same discipline, not out of do-gooderism, but out of practical necessity. By this contract, yes, we may tear up parts of this solar powered economy to build our homes and businesses – that happens in nature, but we are obliged to replace it with another solar powered economy. Or, if we replace it with polluting processes, we are obliged to find partners who will eat the pollution and render it harmless to the overall system.

Discipline and conservatism are one and the same thing after all, are they not? So, once again, all I’m doing here is calling on our conservatives to be, well, conservative for a change in stark contrast to what we are now, a bunch of undisciplined lawless planet busting hooligans.

Naturally, this begs the question, who do I propose will be the enforcer of the contract with nature, big city liberals in Washington? No. The enforcers of the contract with nature are, as always, the laws of physics. Course that then begs the question who interprets the laws of physics? Well, that’s difficult and, yes, there’s a great deal of ambiguity to it, but it’s something we conservatives do all the time. We hire people who can do complex technical analyses.

What’s that you, say? The technical help are all closet socialists who are all about exaggerating problems so as to embezzle grant money? There’s a lamebrain excuse if I ever heard one. What’s the first most basic thing we learn in conservatism 101? How to hire competent help. If we conservatives aren’t up to that anymore, we might as well hang it up and resign from the National Rifle Association.

I am getting drunk about being stupid
Posted by chasxmo - 10-4-08 21:49 - 1 comments
I’m getting drunk about being stupid.

She was having to leave, she said.
Not for falling out of love with me, she said.

No, she said, it was out of weakness.
I can’t take the grief of your ideals, she said.

Please, young lass, I said, please don’t leave me
For the misery that I can’t help but bring upon the world.

I love you for your delusions, she said.
I love you but I can not indure them, she said.

Please, I said. Tis my flawed character, yes.
Without your love, it is too much to bear.

I must go, she said.
I must go, though your flame I will carry always.

My flame is your flame, I said.
Your flame is my flame.

No, she said.
Your flame is your flame.

Oh my dearest, I said.
It is my ending here with your stark honest words.

No, she said.
Your flame is your flame.

Your flame will find it’s way, she said.
That is my parting gift to you, she said, my assurance.

 The devil & Joseph Smith
Posted by confused - 09-7-08 02:40 - 2 comments
Most who believe in God, believe in the devil. Why couldn't Joseph Smith have been talking to the 'great deceiver'?

The first time around we have stone tablets and a few commandments, this time there's a hidden gold book. Which seams in conflict to the first time around.

Don't kill. Well it's OK this time as long as you're saving the person's soul.
Man was created in God's image. Well this time around, you get the idea.

Almost like somebody was saying, 'Let's use alot of flowery words to see how much confusion and discord we can create.'

If man needed clarification, why didn't it come 1,000 years earlier?

Any thoughts. I'm not trying to upset anyone here, I'm just confused....

sex abuse charges against his creepiness

I sure hope Texas doesn't bungle the investigation like they did the protective custody issue. His "marriage" and subsequent statuatory rape of 12 to 15 year old girls is simply...Shit, I'm at a loss for words to decribe my total revulsion.
