Know what admin? I think you need to add a new category
If you have one for Street's Whizdom you should probably make one for Chaster's Challenges ... and all evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. Then he wouldn't have to use all the other threads for his crusade to save the planet. |

Stuck between two systems? That’s what you are in life, stuck between two systems: The eternal FLDS theology of the cosmos, and the temporal world system. There are only two masters. |

Yep, that's the problem, being caught between the two systems. It isn't really such a problem using one or the other, but the conversions can be a real pita, and learning to translate everything back and forth. It is enough to drive you to drinkin' but then you'd still have to figure out how many liters was your limit, instead of ounces. Just round it to the nearest case, what the hell? There are some pretty good online conversion sites, if you keep your laptop handy, but the real problem is that you have to eventually get where you relate instinctively to the other, or both systems... miles in kilometers, acreage in hectors, inches in centimeters, kilos to pounds etc. I can only imagine what a damn nightmare it would be to have to make all those cubic conversions.. cubic yards to cubic centimeters? I think the confusion is all part of the big NWO conspiracy to enslave us all. Just hope that your 6 x 6 cell is in meters instead of feet when you get blamed for the engineering failure. |

[QUOTE=sayitaintso,Dec 2 2007, 10:19 AM]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yup you're dead right what you typed out , and I do carry a old timer . But Cactus , Sayit here's my gripe about the metric system , I am stuck between the two systems . I dont really mind either one . Pick one and use it is what I'd prefer . I can can get use to all the old lingo going away , you know, ten yarder, board foot , cubic foot, a section of ground being a square mile . But its those dang civil Eng. and architects that chap my hide . Mostly civil eng. use tenths and hundreds when calling out elevations . Mostly architects use feet and inches calling out dimensions . Well most times this isn't a issue , BUT, when they change back and forth between the two on the same plans shit can happen , sometimes their own shit , and yes when your out looking at faded plans in a wind storm, or just following the pattern you expect shit happens there . And yup when both civil and arcies have to make a elevation connection to each other you can get sewer shit going up hill. Correction to you Sayit , I'm not jousting wind mills, I'm tired of fixing shit that didn't have to happen , or trying to check shit out to see if if its the right shit , no shit , just tired . Cactus , um , I'm not sure but most likely if you pry open your wallet for less than fifty bucks you can buy a little calculator the will convert any figure you need , I mean , such a small amount , lets convert this cost into cases of beer shall we , for about 4 cases of bud you can save allot of drinking time , lets say , the time between 20-25 beer induced pissing cycles to help you understand the correlation of time , heck of a deal if you ask me . -------------------- Have met the enemy and he is us . --but that he aint me !

The light of day. yes indeed. Yes, changing to the metric system is something we should have done two decades ago. It's this being caught between the two that creates these Don Quixote emotions in you and motivates you to joust with windmills. You are taller and weigh less in the metric system, that should make your day. Jim may be right, I wondered myself if maybe this setting is a personal option that you lovers of traversing through the archaic diggs of ancient history can chose for yourself, but getting through all that the first time was rough enough for me. Incidentally.. the newest stuff in on top in archeology too... just thought I would point that out, that it is sort of more natural phenomenon.
Nay friend, I am not a student of either of these dudes. But the humor isn't lost. As for you being different, yes I suspect that someone has hijacked your identity. And there is no need to stress yourself over Brutus unless you fancy yourself as Nero. As for the traders blade, I would trade you pocket knives sight unseen. I have a strong suspicion that yours is bigger, better, and sharper than mine. Probably an Old Timer. Nah... on second thought, I'll keep my mini-leatherman. It only has a two inch blade (but I do keep it sharp) and it has a centimeter ruler on it. I hope you don't have trouble finding this message... it will be at the top of the list in case you get lost in your old habit of looking around the bottom. |

Oh now you done it. The METRIC system. Let me tell you. As you know I am a professional Radio weeny. Once in a while I have to figure out the wavelength for a specific frequency. Not an easy frequency like 100 Mhz, but something like, say 462.8625 Mhz. So, the formula is Speed of light divided by Freq. So, I divide 186,000 by the freq to get the wavelength - in miles. My measuring tape isn't marked off in miles so I have to mulitply by 5,280 to get it converted to feet. But that gives me a number with a decimal point and my ruler is marked off in 12 inch feet rather than decimal feet so I have to multiply the decimal part by 12 to get inches. But even that isn't enough. I need wavelength to 1/8 inches but my last calculation left me with inches and a decimal. So I have to multiply the decimal part of the inches by 8 to get eighths. Now, my German buddy with a metric ruler divides the speed of light - 300,000,000 meters per second by the frequency and - done. it's Miller time. Oh, he got his length in meters, but that's OK because his first 3 digits after the decimal are Millimeters. He's quaffing a brewski while I'm sitting there with my calculator trying to figure what fraction of King Henry's foot makes a wave. And, if I live to be a hundred (not likely) I will never get to where I can tell you which 32 of an inch is the next larger sized wrench than a 3/8's. Never. Great mechanics can, but wouldn't it be better if they could use those neurons for something useful. Know what the next bigger size than 10 MM is? 11. English system go f...king die! |

Ah yes the wisdom of youth , its always been this way , listen dear grand father of Tyler , he is your replacement in short seasons to come , make ready and rock steady in your chair old man , gird the blanket on your lap and wait rocking for the tick tock to sound no more in your ears , You must rock as the clock speaks to you old man , neither faster or slower, but in rhythm counting whats left of motion in your chair . -------------------- Have met the enemy and he is us . --but that he aint me !

Easy for you to SAY- Sherlock , You selfish Hound of Baskerville , howl no more in my presence, you creature from the dark side . The light of day must come . I will fight and resist to the end as if and as in the attack of the metric system upon this great land . My foes of commonality through out the world only lower the ranks to preform less. To this end I fight the fight knowing it is variety and differences that truly sets men apart on bases of accomplishment determining earned reward . You Marxist , student of Engels , I know you know , I feel your traders blade Brutus . Be quick and make clean your filthy work . Better to perish now than live in a house upside down or common as your commonality will allow . For I am different as I thought you . Dwell well . -------------------- Have met the enemy and he is us . --but that he aint me !

It wasn't Tyler, but me. In fact, Tyler voted against it. So far it appears that you and Tyler are against it while me an Sayitaintso are for it and nobody else has noticed there is a poll going on. Anyway, I am older than you and I adapted quick. As Say says, it seems easier to me to see the last message that was posted on the top so you can read it without scrolling down past 14 feet of Street talk if ya know what I mean. I did notice though that one of the forums had topics upside down. Turns out that is a setting you do yourself for each topic. When you click on a furom, like "Introductions" or "polygamy" if it has the oldest topic first look down at the bottom below all the topics and you can set whether it's by date or something else and whether ascending or descending order. I'd say descending, which means last topic that was replied to on top. It's kind of like freedom, where you have all these settings you can adjust, but it takes a bunch of learnin, which I never was much good at. |

Hang in there yankie, this is an easy adjustment to make. It is better. You just find your thread and read the newest post first. Usually it is only going to be the first few of them you haven't seen already anyway. Most forums work that way, and it's really a pita if your thread gets a few pages long. I think it is even more important when we don't get that TODAY page. The today link here will only list the active threads. It has a glitch though, if there are none it does a brain freeze. Some forums will keep the original post (thread starter) as the first post. I'm sure that's an option they could implement if it was beneficial. It helps keep your thread on topic. Don't worry, you'll get use to not having to scroll thirteen pages to see Streets latest screed. |

Please , for the love of God ,buddha or whoever take pity on a old man Tyler , your young and can adapt to these changes , but Me ? It has been hard to try and adjust to the new web board , so hard and cruel. And now to change one of the few comforts a old man has who's time left in this world must be spoken in terms of months is too much to ask . SOB , SOB, just to much to ask . Don't make me older than I am or make my time left less , last post on bottom , let me leave this world how I have always known it , Can you do that Tyler ? Can you please? -------------------- Have met the enemy and he is us . --but that he aint me !

There are approximately a billion settings you can adjust with this ipb board. As you may have guessed, young Tyler has a much easier job finding them than wore out ol me.
So, anyway, one setting you can make is whether posts appear with the last post on top or the oldest on top and scroll to the bottom to find the most recent. I went and gone and changed it to last in on top. Hope that pleases Y'all. After doing it I had the thought that maybe I should do a poll to see how much happiness this change brought about. So, go ahead and vote. I won't guarantee I'll go with the majority, but I'll sure think about it. Yes |
