http://www.childbrides.org/boys_des_trial_...ng_of_teen.htmlThis is one of the lost boys who got high on mushrooms and killed his 15 year old girl friend for refusing his sexual advances. It would be nice to think this was just an aberration among these kids. What Flora says is they are looking at court cases and there are hundreds of the lost boys who have been convicted of sex crimes. If that's the case it would seem like the FLDS is training sex offenders. At the same time, taking kids from a highly structured environment and dumping them out in the world with nothing, no guidance or resources, is setting them up for trouble. This case is really tragic. A 15 year old girl is dead and the "lost boy" who killed her doesn't even remember the night it happened.

Jim,
This is a horrible story, though I've read about it when it happened.
That Dutson committed a crime is without question. That he will be held accountable seems obvious.
What I think you and Flora are saying is that many of these kids have committed crimes and I agree. One day, randomly, I was browsing the police report section of Southern Utah and recognized more then half of those arrested over the weekend. I think you are a saying, "this is what happens when you abandon children and leave them to there own devices."
I agree. But I have been trying to add a dimension of responsibility to that concept. Instead of just casting out, or allowing children to "run-away" because they cannot stand your rules or because they are bad, the parent should be held to some level of accountability. But the entire polygamist culture has the same story. Our Mother Country just didn't know what to do with us and abandoned us, or if you like, allowed us to run-away and good ridance.
But as demostrated by these lost boys, you cannot allow young members of your family to just run-off (even abandon them) without at least some sort of guidance or accoutability.
I'm saying that is exactly what America did to us. To have it all come out as, "see, polygamy promotes crime" still bugs me.
And I am very sad for this girl and her parents. What a horrible thing to have to experience.
